The Kansas City Star

My summer 2016 internship at Kansas City Star was my first taste of metro reporting and I couldn’t get enough. Because I had prior statehouse experience and the Star was between political reporters, I was able to use my previous experience to help report on a Kansas Supreme Court case that had forced the state legislature back into session to adequately fund public schools. I was able to break down the issue for readers in an alternative story format piece explaining the possible outcomes of the court case. I also covered a grocery store on wheels that was addressing food desserts on Kansas City’s redlined and impoverished East Side.
